A commemorative event titled “History Illuminates the Present, Cooperation Lights the Future” was held in Shanghai on Monday, with witnesses and experts from both China and the US revisiting their shared history, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

She shared with the attendees the story of her grandfather, who arrived in China on June 1, 1937, and later led the “Flying Tigers,” officially known as the American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force, to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Chinese people to fight against the invading Japanese troops.
Lu Weijun, son of Zhang Fengqi, a female veteran of the Flying Tigers, said during his speech at the event that his mother cherished the deep friendship she had with the Flying Tigers during her lifetime.
