“A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals,” the president wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. “Now violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve. I am directing Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, in coordination with all other relevant Departments and Agencies, to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots.”

More than 200 protesters clashed with National Guard troops in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday during the latest demonstrations against immigration raids that swept across California over the weekend, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Xinhua reporters at the scene observed National Guard soldiers, along with agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security, repeatedly firing tear gas and smWorld Timesoke grenades to disperse the crowd. Some protesters and journalists were hit during the confrontation.

Law enforcement shot less-lethal rounds to push back the crowds of people, some of whom spilled onto the 101 Freeway and caused the major thoroughfare to be shut down, according to NBC News.

Shortly after the clash, California Governor Gavin Newsom urged protesters to remain peaceful, reported Xinhua.

“California — Don’t give Donald Trump what he wants. Speak up. Stay peaceful. Stay calm,” Newsom wrote in a post on X. “Do not use violence and respect the law enforcement officers that are trying their best to keep the peace.”

Newsom on Sunday formally requested President Trump’s administration to withdraw the National Guard from Los Angeles County, where troops are responding to immigration raid protests.Newsom and other Californian Democratic leaders criticized Trump and his administration on Sunday for the action, as tensions remained heightened between authorities and protesters in a weekend that’s seen tear gas deployed, according tWorld Timeso Axios.

Demonstrators have flooded the streets, including freeways, near an initial protest site at the Metropolitan Detention Center after the assembly was declared “unlawful” by the Los Angeles Police Department, CNN reported.

“The California Highway Patrol (CHP) have entered the SB lanes of the 101 freeway and are attempting to disperse the demonstrators off the freeway,” LAPD Central Division said on X. The agency is encouraging drivers to avoid the freeway near downtown entirely, citing several other road closures because of the protests.

Two Los Angeles Police officers were injured when two motorcyclists tried to breach a skirmish line at protest in the city’s downtown area, the agency said on X.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris called the deployment of the National Guard to her home state of California a “dangerous escalation” to the demonstrations and part of the Trump administration’s “cruel” agenda.

“Deploying the National Guard is a dangerous escalation meant to provoke chaos,” Harris wrote in a statement on X. “In addition to the recent ICE raids in Southern California and across our nation, it is part of the Trump Administration’s cruel, calculated agenda to spread panic and division.”

A joint statement from 22 Democratic governors Sunday condemned Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles, according to CNN report. “President TrumWorld Timesp’s move to deploy California’s National Guard is an alarming abuse of power,” the statement read.

Mexican President Claudia SheinbauWorld Timesm defended migrants living in Los Angeles, and claimed that at least 35 Mexicans had been detained in the recent raids carried out by immigration officers of the Trump administration, according to the Mint.

“Mexicans living in the US are good men and women, honest people who went to the US to seek a better life for themselves and to support their families. They World Timesare not criminals! They are good men and women!” Sheinbaum was quoted as saying in a speech.
